BMW i3 Adaptive LED Headlight Retrofit with E-sys

Installing 552 “Adaptive LED Headlight” on BMW i3 I01 LCI instead of 5A2 “LED headlight” or 5A4 “LED headlight with extended scopes”. This retrofit does not require additional wiring, re-pinning or somewhat else.

Check that you have the right headlights for your vehicle: left-hand drive (LHD) or right-hand drive (RHD). Double check ECUs installed in headlights. Count and check the position of each pin in the connector. For SA 552 Adaptive LED Headlight on LCI I01 car ECU must be FLE2MAX (HWEL: 2B8F 03.01.00), P/N: 63 11 8 494 844.*

Requirements:
— Windows PC/laptop/tablet,
— ENET (or VXDIAG VCX SE BMW),
— E-Sys,
— PSdZData lite or full.
NOTE: We don’t provide E-Sys and PSdZData programs.

Installing:
0. Connect Adaptive LED Headlights to a car.
1. Connect PC to a car via ENET (or VCX SE) and run E-Sys (launcher not required) with PSdZData lite or full. Use the “Coding” section in E-Sys.
2. Remove from FA option 5A2 “LED headlight” or 5A4 “LED headlight with extended scopes” (if present).
3. Add to FA option 552. This FA can be written to VCM.
4. You may want to remove option 8S4 “Decoding, variable light distribution” from FA (if present).
5. Code BDC_BODY [40].
6. If ECE headlights installed on US car change “Typschlussel” value to ECE in FA and vice versa. Pass this step if not.
7. Code FLE [43] and FLE [44].
8. Check all lights manually or via ISTA.
Done

VXDIAG BMW ISTA 4.39 Cannot Connect with BMW X5 Solution

Problem:

Using VXDIAG VCX SE BMW scanner and ISTA+ 4.39 software to diagnose a BMW X5 2011. Sometimes it can establish communication, but other times it fails. It cannot read VIN. If you input VIN manually, it keeps ongoing the backgroud process. How to fix it?

VXDIAG BMW ISTA 4.39 Cannot Connect with BMW X5 2

VXDIAG BMW ISTA 4.39 Cannot Connect with BMW X5 3

VXDIAG BMW ISTA 4.39 Cannot Connect with BMW X5 4

Solution:

First of all, select vehicle interface (device type) as Dealer organisation ICOM/ENET local area network.

Allow Ethernet as the preferred communication channel when connected via ICOM.

If still cannot read VIN, disconnect the VCX SE for 2 minutes.

Then connect the device and test again.

Select Interface for VXDIAG with 3rd Party BMW Software

Question:

I am using third-party BMW Rheingold ISTA+ software with a VXDIAG VCX SE BMW device, not the VXDIAG 2TB hard drive. What device type should I select in the vehicle interface settings?

Select Interface for VXDIAG with 3rd Party BMW 1

Solution:

In this case, select the vehicle interface as “Dealer organization ICOM/ENET local area network“.

Hit “Yes” to accept Ethernet as the preferred communication channel when connected via ICOM.

How to Solve BMW E-Sys “Failed to get CAFs for SWE” Error?

Problem:

Unable to code the ECU via E-Sys, the error “Failed to get CAFs for SWE” appears when trying to code.

Mini F55 Cooper S 2018, faulty ASD (Active Sound Design) ECU replaced with another used one.
ISTA shows an error that the ASD ECU is not coded.
E-Sys shows that ASD does not have CAFD.

BMW E-Sys “Failed to get CAFs for SWE” Error 1

There is no CAFD in the ASD ECU, but there should be.

In E-Sys, select ASD [3f] and click “Detect CAF for SWE”.

Error message:
Failed to get CAFs for SWE “swfl_…”
KIS error: The technical unit … could not be found in the KIS knowledge base.

BMW E-Sys “Failed to get CAFs for SWE” Error 2

Error Failed to get CAFs for SWE when clicking Detect CAF for SWE.

It is not possible to code the ECU.

Create an SVT Target in E-Sys, if possible with an I-Step (target) as close as possible to the I-Step (current) or higher than the I-Step of the used unit (see I-Step current in VCM).

It is clear that SWFL_000021D4… is suggested to be deleted from the ASD ECU, and SWFL_000029ED… loaded instead, and CAFD_00000F9B… added.

BMW E-Sys “Failed to get CAFs for SWE” Error 3

In SVT Target for ASD ECU it is suggested to load SWFL_000029ED… instead of SWFL_000021D4… and add CAFD.

In this case, the error “Failed to get CAFs for SWE” appears because E-Sys cannot find CAFD for SWFL_000021D4… and the current FA configuration, because for the current configuration, the ECU must have a different SWFL (there must be SWFL_000029ED… instead of SWFL_000021D4…).

To flash another SWFL into the ECU you need: ENET/ICOM/VXDIAG VCX SE, E-Sys (without launcher), PSdZData full, voltage source for programming.

Create a TAL and program the ASD to replace the SWFL and add CAFD to it (be sure to connect a voltage source to the machine to maintain voltage of at least 12.6 volts, at least for the duration of programming).

After programming, in the ASD module,  SWFL_000021D4… disappeared and SWFL_000029ED… and CAFD_00000F9B…appeared.

BMW E-Sys “Failed to get CAFs for SWE” Error 4

ASD was coded after SWFL change, CAFD appeared.

The ASD ECU is programmed, coded, works, no errors.

VXDIAG VCX SE BMW HDD Asks for Hardware ID?

Problem:

I have vxdiag vcx se BMW scanner running with the HDD without a laptop. When I plug the HDD (MSATA) into my laptop and start ISTA, it asks for the hardware ID. How do I solve this problem?

Solution:

You cannot solve this problem with HDD.

You are using the wrong BMW software HDD.

The activation depends on the seller of HDD.

Don’t use 3rd party BMW software HDD with VXDIAG device.

Use the dedicated VXDIAG BMW HDD. It does not require a hardware ID.

Contact WHATSAPP:0086-18064450969 if need the VXDIAG BMW HDD separately.

The current version goes to Diagnostic 4.39.20, Programming 68.0.800.

VXDIAG VCX SE BMW E-sys 3.70 Error LDE Solution

Problem:

Got the VXDIAG VCX SE BMW and ISTA 4.50 software hard drive. Tried to open the E-sys 3.70 software on the desktop. It reported an error “Err= LDE .Please contact support.” Any solution?

VXDIAG VCX SE BMW E-sys 3.70 Error LDE

Solution:

2025.03 VXDIAG BMW Software List:

VXDIAG BMW WIN10 system

ISTA-P 68.0.800
ETK2019.12
KSD2
E-SYS 3.40
BMWAi  4.4
INPA 5.00

winkfp 5.3.1

NCS 4.0.1

E-sys Version 3.40 is free to use; other versions need to be bought from the official source.

Launcher PRO 3.7.0.315 isn’t free. There are some hacked versions floating around, that still requires a PC HWID specific activation code.

VXDIAG ISTA+ 4.50 ICOM End of Use in April 2025?

Question:

In the connection management, there is a warning that the end of use of ICOM A and A2 connections in ISTA will occur in April 2025. What will happen then?

VXDIAG ISTA+ 4.50 ICOM End of Use in April 2025

All will received same notification when the time reach.

  • End of Support:
BMW is ending support for the ICOM A and A2 tools with the ISTA diagnostic and programming software in April 2025.
  • Implication:
This means that after April 2025, these older ICOM tools will no longer be compatible with the latest versions of ISTA.
  • Transition:
BMW is encouraging users to transition to the newer ICOM Next C tool, which is compatible with the newer ISTA/P software.
  • Why the Change:
BMW is likely moving to newer technology to improve diagnostic capabilities and streamline the programming process.

The Ista updates after that date will not work anymore for ICOM A1 & A2 without license, only ICOM NEXT will work.

To use ISTA+ V4.50 or later version with VXDIAG BMW scanner, you will need a valid license.

One of our customers has tested 4.50.12 and 4.52.1x version, it works fine with license.
