Program 2008 Subaru Outback XT Key with VXDIAG SSM3

Here comes the problem:

I’ve got a VXDIAG VCX SE Subaru scanner and I’m attempting to use SSM3 for key registration with the immo, but it’s asking for a Security ID. I believe this is a 5-digit code that Subaru dealerships typically provide.

The snag I’m facing is that my car is from the USA, and I’m currently in Canada. I’ve visited a few dealerships here, but they won’t give me the code, citing their inability to access codes for American cars.

Is there anyone out there who could assist me in obtaining the 5-digit security code for a 2008 Subaru Outback XT? This is the only piece missing for me to program these keys.

 

Most of tools either pulls the PIN from the car VIA OBDII or bypass the PIN. But SSM3 requires 5-digit security code to access.

The only way is to go to dealership and pay a fee to get your codes.

VXDIAG SSM3 Cannot Connect 2010 Subaru Impreza?

One of vxdiagshop.com‘s customers had a problem connecting 2010 Subaru Impreza using vxdiag vcx se Subaru SSM3 software.

 

Our engineer did a Teamviewer check and resolved the problem.

Here are the tips.

 

The customer only got SSM4 software shortcut on desktop.

Usually, if you run SSM4, when connecting with Subaru 2010 (or other models require SSM III), it will directly switch to SSM3 software.

But if it fails to switch to SSM3, you should find SSM3 software separately from the installation root directory.

Then run SSM3 software.

VXDIAG VCX SE Subaru Forester 2016 Review

Here’s new Subaru scanner feedback and review from one of our customers.

I have a working bi-directional scan/diagnostic tool.  The device is a VXDIAG VCX SE model, made by Allscanner, a Chinese company and it was purchased from vxdiagshop.com. I chose a Toyota and Honda “license” for it as well. Total including shipping from China, was just under $250.  The Autel I looked at had very limited bi-directional support for Subaru; mostly “read-only”. So i decided to get this vxdiag.

It works on Subaru with a copy of SSM3/SSM4. The SSM “Patch” provided doesn’t appear to work with Win10; I’ll try win7 later. I like Win7 way better than Win10 in any event.

The SSM4 will connect to my 2016 Forester, and it is bi-directional; the only thing I have done so far is activate the horn, and work the door locks, but for that to happen, it has to be talking to the cars CANBUS, and working is working. SSM4 is not at all intuitive to use, and there doesn’t appear to be anything like an instruction manual available for it, so be prepared for a steep learning curve.

I haven’t tried the Techstream/Honda software with the VXDIAG device yet, but the TIS v.7 I have on another box works just fine, and it isn’t real difficult to learn.

I was able to put Windows7 on the Win10 laptop. It wasn’t trivial, but it did activate.
I was able to install the SSM3/SSM4/VXDIAG_Manager software, and the “Patch” works as advertised under Win7.
I was able to connect to the Forry, run assorted diagnostics, see “live” parametric data, etc. I found the instruction manuals for the SSM* software, and I guess I’ll have to RTFM at some point.
All good, but randomly when trying to connect, the car CANBUS has a fit about something. The instrument panel lights up like a Christmas Tree, the VXDIAG refuses to connect, and after shutting down and disconnecting everything, the car has the CEL on when re-started. A generic OBDII scanner finds the following DTCs:
U0101, U0122, U0073, U0155.
All CANBUS “communication” errors. The scanner will clear these DTCs, but they are listed as “permanent”, and they come right back. Driving the car a bit does clear them, and then the VXDIAG device will connect again. I pulled the car OBD connector loose, and gave it a good once-over; it looked fine.

$250 is a very nice price compared to sourcing an official tool from Subaru (~$3,000 for the Denso device, plus $1500/yr subscription for SSM software ).

Program Subaru Legacy 2012 Key by VXDIAG SSM3

Here is how to program a transponder key for a Subaru. This car is a 2012 Legacy. It’s got a transponder key. Got two of them off ebay.

This code here is for the key fob.

I put the key in the ignition and I got a vehicle light with a key in it that’s saying it won’t start. It is unprogrammed.

Let me put in a good key. No vehicle key light came up and this one works okay.

I bought the vxdiag vcx se Subaru for 259 bucks off vxdiagshop.com. It came with 3 software you can choose some of them. I chose Subaru, Ford and GM.

Subaru has a technical service bulletin that explains how the immobilizer and the keys work.

There are a couple codes you’ll need to use when you use this software.  It’s going to ask us for a teaching code and then the immobilizer code.

I had to go to the dealership to give them proof of ownership of the car and then they gave me this immobilizer code.

All right so let’s start. Plug vcx se interface in. Then open the software SSM3.

You have to select the subaru select monitor 3 as the device. Then select All mother modules and then hit Immobilizer.

The smart system is for those keyless cars with the push button starts so i select no because mine doesn’t have that.

Turn on the ignition switch with the working key.

and select yes.

SSM3 asks to enter the teaching operation code. Now you can find that on the internet. This is a 2012 Legacy so i’ll use 3781. So it worked.

Now we to register the keys.  This might take a minute too.

 

The security id is what you’ll have to get from the dealership.

I got my key and my key code that’s to cut the key.

We want to register the key, press yes.

Let’s do the second key. I have three keys I have to do if you do one.

It’s only going to register the new key. It’s going to delete all the other keys so you have to program all the keys at one time even if you only even have two work and you want to program the third.

You got to do all three of them.

So i’m going to do the second key.  It tells me to turn the switch off and change the key.

That key is now working. Press Yes I want to do a third key.

Turn the ignition off

If you don’t need to register more keys. Select Cancel.

Do you want to register the remote engine start?

so this is my parents’ old car, they had a remote starter. This is the receiver but they lost the switch of the remote.

so i’m gonna try to order a remote and then use this to program that.

So that’s a good capability of the vxdiag subaru diagnostic tool.

I’m gonna hit quit so that’s it that’s all done.

So now all these keys work.

I programmed the key fob the buttons here. With the manual way you go and put the ignition and you turn it on and off 10 times and then you press these unlock buttons with the code that you have that code and that’s how i program those so this. This can probably program the key fobs also but this is my first time using it and i just want to buy it to program the transponder key.  They wanted a hundred dollars just to program the key. So i imagine if i bought the key and has it cut it would have been more than that. So the tool is pretty much paid for itself.

VXDIAG Subaru SSM4 Time for Updating Software Expired Solution

Problem:

I got the vxdiag vcx se Subaru SSM3/SSM4 scanner today but failed to install the SSM4 software on Windows 11.

Error” You cannot intall the software. Time limit for updating the software has expired.

Perform the license authentication.

Any solution?

Solution:

Change your computer date/time.

For example: The SSM4.exe last date modified is 1/1/2022, you can change the time to any day in July 2022.

Computer date should not exceed six (6) months from the date (i.e date can not be set newer than 1/7/2022).

Don’t need to restart computer. Direct install SSM4 after change time.
